Charities urged to bid for share of £2m

A £2.33m funding pot is available from H M Revenue & Customs for charities and community organisations in the UK who help vulnerable people reduce debt and get the right benefits and tax. You have until 12 November to make a bid.

Grassroots Grants

Hull CVS has been awarded a three year grant to become a Grassroots Grants Local Funder by the Community Development Foundation who manage the fund on behalf of the Office of the Third Sector. We will be working alongside York and North Yorkshire Community Foundation who have been awarded a similar grant to deliver Grassroots Grants in the East Riding of Yorkshire.

NEW BODY TO EXAMINE HEALTH AND SOCIAL CARE SERVICES

Hull City Council has awarded Hull CVS a three-year contract to develop Hull’s new LINk (Local Involvement Network). CVS are now recruiting local people and groups to join the LINk.

Hull LINk will be an independent network of individuals and voluntary and community groups looking at health and social care services provided by the NHS, City Council, private companies and charities.

Response from Hull City Council Streetscene to Hull Community Network Recycling Questionnaire

In January 2008 Hull Community Network presented a report to the council based on members’ views on recycling in the city. Views were collected through a questionnaire to members which asked for their ideas on how to improve Hull’s performance on recycling.

ONE HULL Community Engagement Framework and Toolkits

The Government is increasingly emphasising the need to involve residents and community groups in decisions that affect their lives. The 2007 Local Government and Public Involvement in Health Act makes it a statutory duty to engage the people they serve in decisions about their area.

To meet these requirements, Hull Community Network took the lead with partners of ONE HULL to develop a Community Engagement Framework. This was adopted by ONE HULL in December 2006.

Hull Development Framework Core Strategy: Consultation on the Sustainability Appraisal Scoping Report

We will shortly be consulting on Issues and Options for the Core Strategy of the Hull Development Framework (HDF). The Core Strategy will need to be accompanied by a Sustainability Appraisal (SA) which will assess the likely social, economic and environmental effects of the strategy. The first stage of the appraisal is the preparation of a ‘scoping report’ that sets out the range of factors that the appraisal needs to consider. A draft Scoping Report for the Core Strategy has been prepared by the consultants Arup. We are consulting on this Scoping Report to ensure that it covers all the relevant factors.

Hull City Council is looking to recruit 5000 people of all different ages, from different areas and ethnic backgrounds to form a huge citizens' panel, which will help improve council services.
Community Empowerment Network (CEN) Research

Urban Forum has published research which details the current state of Community Empowerment Networks (CENs) in England. It shows that up to 40 per cent of CENs are set to lose funding and that quarter of CENs are doing less empowerment work at the same time as empowerment is rising to the top of the Government's policy agenda.

Hull Citizens Advice Bureau - Risk of Closure

You may have seen in the media that Hull Citizens Advice Bureau is at risk of closure due to the
introduction of a Community Legal Advice Centre (CLAC). This will be funded by the Hull City Council and the Legal Service Commission which aims to deliver advice in the city primarily through the councils own customer service centres.

The Future of Hull Community Network

As you may know, following a review by Akronym consultants as part of the third sector infrastructure review, the ONE HULL Board on 11th December decided to terminate the funding for the work of Hull Community Network on 31st March 2008. This means the Network office on Beverley Road will close down and all staff will be made redundant.

**Important Announcement** Delivery Board Decision on Future Funding for Hull Community Network

Following the meeting of the ONE HULL Delivery Board yesterday afternoon (11th December), the One Hull Board’s decision about the above is as follows.

The Board were presented with two recommendations, and chose to leave the notice served upon HCN in late September in place. This will mean that funding for HCN will cease on 31 March 2008.
