Trans Awareness Workshop
A GenderShift Trans Awareness Workshop is available throughout the Yorkshire and the Humber area almost every week.

This entertaining and informative workshop is designed to assist organisations in meeting their obligations under the Gender Equality Duty (GED) to take appropriate action to prevent discrimination and harassment of trans people and promote equal opportunities.

Many people have never knowingly met a trans person and their experiences are often based on negative comments and confusing labels, jargon and myths about differing trans experiences. This interactive event explores the colourful history and changing rights of trans people through lecture, discussion, group exercises, handouts, on-line resources and a unique question and answer session in which trans people will answer all your questions, "no matter how personal. (All questions are asked anonymously).

Developed by professional speaker and trainer Rikki Arundel, herself a trans woman and masters graduate in gender research, the workshop was successfully trialled with various departments in Hull City Council, Leicester City Council, Humberside Criminal Justice Board, Stop Hate UK, a variety of University Student Unions and open events.

Movie Nights
First Thursday Every Month

Join us for an evening of entertainment, discussion and understanding of Gender.

We have a great selection of movies with a gender theme that are seldom, if ever, shown on TV or the Cinema, including feature films and documentaries. Our movies have been selected because in some way they address gender issues or gender inequality.

Each First Thursday at the Community Enterprise Centre we offer a choice of movies for the audience to choose from, all around a specific theme issue. Themes will include transgender, gay, lesbian, masculinity, femininity, inequality, atypical gender, breaking stereotypes, international issues, disability, age, sexual orientation, harassment, violence, etc.
After the film there will be a short break when refreshments will be served, including tea, coffee, wine and beer and some snacks (all included in the price) and we will then discuss the issues raised in the movie.

We will also be asking you to complete a questionnaire to let us know what issues and themes you would like at future film nights. This event is funded by the Equality and Human Rights Commission and will be a fun way to address difficult issues. Let us have your recommendations.

Our Movie Library includes:
Kinky Boots, Beautiful Boxer, Soldiers Girl, Wilde, Ma Vie en Rose, Trans America, Torch Song Trilogy, La Cage Aux Folles, Baise Moi, Tipping the Velvet, Fingersmith, Bound, My Beautiful Launderette, Normal, Just like a Woman, The Laramie Project, Wild Side, Boys Don’t Cry, Breakfast on Pluto, Crying Game, Queer as Folk, Naked Civil Servant, Before Stonewall, Middle Sexes, Bad Education, Stonewall, Bent, Farewell My Concubine, Eating Out, My Summer of Love, Paris is Burning... and many more.
