About Us

Hull Community Network consists of all community groups and voluntary organisations (VCOs) in Hull. It was set up in 2001 as part of the government’s national Neighbourhood Renewal Strategy to serve as a link between us and the Local Strategic Partnership (LSP) in Hull. 1000 groups and organisations are already members of the Community Network in Hull.

Our aim …
To support the community and voluntary sector in Hull to be equal partners in the LSP and serve as a link between the community and voluntary sector and the LSP.

What we do…

  • We gather the views of the community and voluntary sector in Hull, organise them and channel to the LSP through our representatives.
  • We conduct elections for your representatives to the various parts of the LSP such as the Sub-Boards and the Board.
  • We support our reps once elected by providing secretarial and policy support, briefings before meetings, summarise documents etc.
  • We provide training for community reps and groups so that they can be effectively involved in meetings.
  • We pay out-of –pocket expenses incurred by people in Community Network activities such as transport, care costs and translation & interpretation.
  • We visit groups and communities to get them involved in the Community Network.
  • We hold regular Community Network Forum meetings to discuss issues.
  • We give you information and feedback as to what is happening in the city.

You can get involved by:

  • Providing us with your groups’ contacts
  • Taking part in our activities such as Community Network forum meetings and discussions
  • Give us feedback and your views about issues in the city via this website.
  • Contact any member of staff who will give more information or support to get involved.
  • Organising a local meeting of community groups/voluntary organisations to discuss any local or citywide issue of concern to your group (we can support you or attend your meetings).
  • Contacting our representatives with your views through the Network Office.
  • Standing for elections onto the LSP Sub-Boards & Board or our Steering Group
  • Nominating someone for elections onto the LSP Sub-Boards & Board or our Steering Group
  • Voting in our elections for representatives, even if you do not nominate anyone
  • Reading the information we send to you and sending us your comments by telephone, fax or e-mail
  • Your name and other details will be added to our database so that you will receive regular information from us in the future.

REMEMBER YOU DON’T NECESSARILY HAVE
TO ATTEND MEETINGS TO BE INVOLVED
